City Councilor Diana Perez has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2023 Race Equity and Leadership (REAL) Council. Perez was elected to a one-year term to develop and guide programs among local elected officials from similar communities. The appointment was announced by NLC President Mayor Victoria Woodards of Tacoma, Washington.

"I am honored to be appointed to the NLC’s Race, Equity and Leadership Council and to represent Vancouver in this capacity,” said City Councilor Diana Perez. “I look forward to this opportunity to collaborate with colleagues on a national scale as we work to eliminate racial disparities and divisions, and to advocate for issues that are deeply important to the Vancouver community."

As a member of NLC’s REAL Council, Perez will play a key role among a diverse group of local leaders to encourage collaboration, networking and the development of resources and programs beneficial to communities that share demographics, size or location that can be replicated across the country.

“Our member councils give voice to what’s happening on the ground in our communities,” said NLC President Mayor Victoria Woodards of Tacoma, Washington. “I am proud to have Councilor Perez join NLC's REAL Council. Together with a team of local leaders from around the country, we will work to address the toughest challenges facing our communities and ensure that America’s cities, towns and villages have the resources they need to thrive.”

Already serving with the NLC is Vancouver Mayor Pro Tem Ty Stober who is on the REAL Leadership Team as a Vice Chair this coming year.

“I am excited to have Council member Perez join the REAL committee in its work to help American’s cities, towns, and villages create more equitable and just communities,” said Stober.

Stober also continues his role on the NLC’s Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee, the NLC’s Board of Directors and Board Policy Committee, and as 1st Vice President of NLC’s LGBTQ+LO group.
