On Monday, February 20, the Vancouver Police Department will begin issuing body worn cameras (BWC) to all sworn personnel.

The Vancouver Police Department Camera Program will roll out in phases:

1. The first phase will be the rollout of body worn cameras (BWC) to sworn staff members beginning February 20, 2023. The BWC rollout will begin with patrol personnel being issued BWC’s first, followed by non-patrol personnel. The BWC rollout is expected to be completed by March 9, 2023.
2. The next phase will be the installation of front-facing and rear passenger vehicle cameras in Vancouver Police patrol vehicles. The installation rollout for these cameras is anticipated to begin in Q4 2023 (shipping of this equipment is delayed until Q4, due to supply chain issues).

“This is a very important milestone our personnel have been looking forward to for some time and one we know the community has also been anticipating”, said Vancouver Police Chief Jeff Mori. “The increased transparency, trust, and accountability this program will bring to our community is invaluable and we appreciate everyone that supported and worked on this project to make it happen. Special thanks to Senator Maria Cantwell and former Congresswoman Jamie Herrera Beutler, who helped the City secure the $1.5 million grant from the Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Service (DOJ COPS) technology program.”
