Want to learn about garbage, recycling and waste?

A

Each year Americans generate millions of tons of waste in the form of packaging, furniture, grass clippings, yard trimmings, glass, plastic, metal, paper products, clothing, and much, much more. Removing the waste from our community and working to reduce, reuse and recycle is crucial for our health and the health of our environment.

Clark County Public Health’s Solid Waste Operations program works to protect and preserve human health, environmental quality and natural resources by managing the regional solid waste system. The Solid Waste Operations team contracts with private companies for recycling collection, sorting, processing and marketing, and garbage transfer and disposal services. The team also oversees the monitoring and maintenance of the closed Leichner landfill to protect against the release of hazardous constituents to the environment. Through education and outreach, information is provided to the community on garbage, recycling, household hazardous waste, paint, e-waste and unwanted medication take back programs.
