Preventing and controlling the spread of infectious diseases is a core public health function.Public Health’s Communicable Disease team monitors disease activity and investigates all reports of notifiable conditions, such as measles, tuberculosis, or salmonella. They also work with our partners at schools, health care facilities and long-term care facilities to prevent the spread of illnesses – like influenza, gastrointestinal illness or chickenpox – in these settings.
The Communicable Disease team partners with other Public Health programs to investigate suspected outbreaks, such as our Food Safety team when investigating foodborne illness that may be linked to a restaurant or our Recreational Water Safety team when investigating waterborne illness tied to a local swimming spot.
This team of disease investigators works hard to protect the health of our community and reduce the risk of illness for all residents!
