On May 10, 2023, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03) announced Alyssa Diaz of Columbia River High School is the winner of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition. Alyssa’s piece, “El Núcleo Sagrado,” will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

Elizabeth Ruff of Kelso High School took home second place with “Loki,” and Hailey Smith of Kelso High School took home third place with “When Stars Align.”

The artwork was selected by a panel of six Southwest Washington arts leaders.

“I’m blown away by the incredible talent of Southwest Washington’s young artists. Alyssa’s piece, “El Núcleo Sagrado,” is a beautiful depiction of the joy that comes from bringing people together,” said Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez. “I want to congratulate Alyssa and everyone who entered this year’s competition.”
