Clark County Animal Protection and Control on Friday, May 20 issued a search warrant in conjunction with the Vancouver Police Department at a residence in Vancouver for possible animal cruelty. Nineteen animals to include dogs, cats, small animals and reptiles were removed from the apartment. The owners were arrested and charged with first- and second-degree animal cruelty. All animals were taken to the Humane Society for Southwest Washington for veterinary exams and medical attention.

On Saturday, May 21, Clark County Animal Protection and Control also responded to a call for emaciated horses in La Center. Three horses were immediately removed from the property. While this is an active case the horses were signed over to CCAPC and placed with Sound Equine Options a well-respected horse rescue in Multnomah County, OR. This is the third case Sound Equine Options has assisted Clark County Animal Protection and Control with in the last two months.

In February Sound Equine Options assisted CCAPC with the removal of a horse after its owner passed away. There were also two goats on scene that needed removal for care and were later placed with The Old Goats Home in Vashon, WA. SEO also assisted CCAPC on a search warrant involving horses this month (case is ongoing at this time).

“It is our partnerships with local law enforcement, the Humane Society, rescues and community fosters that allow us to do our job, said Animal Protection and Control Manager Joanne Cloud. “Thank you, Vancouver PD for helping us get those animals to safety and thank you Sound Equine Options for always being ready for the calls. I would like to give a special shout out to local equine volunteer Pamela Gotham. Pamela has helped us on five equine cases and is an amazing resource to have at our disposal.”
